What To Do In Sydney: Top 5 Things To Do In Sydney
68Top 5 Things To Do In Sydney
Sydney is arguably the most beautiful city in the world, the major draw card is the amazing harbour the city is built around. The pristine beaches and warm weather create the perfect combination for a terrific holiday. Now, I am a local to Sydney and I have lived here for 28 years (my whole life). I'm basically going to give you an honest look at my local town, an what you should do when on vacation in Sydney Australia.
1. Sydney Bridge Climb:
I
have personally done this recently, and even though I grew up in
this city, even I could appreciate the magnificant view of the harbour this provides. There is no comparible viewpoint, to capture the essence of the city, like this one. This is a 3
hour group tour, where you go through a serious of preperations before you get out onto the bridge. Firstly you get fited into your bridgeclimb jump suit, you then move to another room, where you go through the steps of applying your safety harness. The whole time your on the brige your safe 100% of the time, you basically strapped to the static line that runs the whole length of the climb. Once you finish with the preliminaries your on your way. The Sydney Bridge Climb takes you on a walk up the ladders and onto the main bow of the bridge, to the
highest point where the Australian flag stands. It has to be said if your scared of heights (like I am), don't worry, it's a tad un-nerving at the beggining, but you soon become comfortable with it. Once you reach the main bow of the bridge you start a slow walk up to the centre, and the view is absolutly amazing, with 360 degree panoramic
surroundings, it is an experience that no tourist should miss let alone Sydney siders themsleves. It
costs AUD$200 per person, they provide photographs of your time on the bridge and it is well worth it!
2. Bondi Beach:
This is a brilliant place to be on a hot summers day. There is hot
beach babes cruising around everywhere, and plenty of surfers out there fo the lady's to. However, its not
just the people that are beautiful, the beach is exactly like the
post cards, beautiful white sand and deep blue water. The atmosphere down at Bondi Beach is second to none, it's just a very relaxing vibe, a real holiday chill out feeling. There are plenty of shops just metres away from the beach if you fancy a bite to eat for lunch, and the famous Bondi Hotel, if you want to have a cold relaxing beer after a swim. The cafe's are plentiful on the Bondi Beach strip, with many people scattered throughout them enjoying the scene. No tourist
can miss out on visiting Bondi Beach, it is a true icon of Australia.
3. Royal National Park Drive:
The Bundeena National Park drive is a very much underrated tourist activity.
I lived in Southern Sydney most of my life, and every weekend we
used to go down to the National Park. This is a beautiful drive
through the rainforest, a deep green rainforest experience. There are many walkways made especially for hikers, some more intense then others. One of the more popular stops on the drive through the National Park is Wattamolla. I am led to believe that wattamolla is derived from the Aboriginal language, meaning "place near running water". Wattamolla is where the inner water system meets the ocean, creating a beatiful environment for you to spend a day and have a picnic. Many people swim at the Wattamolla waterhole, and is very much a safe place, I have been swimming there many times. Beautiful secluded
beaches are scattered throughout the National Park, you just have to be cunning enough to find them! The most famous beach which looks out over Cronulla's famous Shark Island surf break is Bundeena, it's a great place, very remote and peaceful The drive starts at Waterfall and finishes down the South
Coast at Stanwell tops, where you will be at the top of Bald Hill
lookout, looking down the entire South Coast. Beautiful finishing
point with an incredible view, and if your lucky the hangliders will be running off the hill doing their thing, quite a spectacle.
4. Lunch At Centre Point Tower:
Centre Point Tower is exactly that. This massive structure is at the
heart of Sydney city, and is a perfect place to for lunch with a
view. Centre Point Tower provides a decent enough menu with tasty food, and
the view is amazing while you eat. The restaurant itself is revolving all the time
so you can see every angle of the city and harbour. To be honest I don't visit this famous landmark very often, but in saying that, if I was in Sydney as a tourist I would definantly take the time to check it out.Recently they
have introduced a glass walking platform, where you walk out on to
solid glass and it feels like your walking on air. At the base of Centre Point Tower Westfield shopping centre has just completed a huge face lift and the shopping is said to be incredible, with many famous designer brands. This famous Landmark is at the heart of the city so when you come down from your lunch be sure to take a walk and experience the city on foot, which is also a truly underated way to see the city!
5. Royal Randwick:
Horse racing is very much apart of Sydney culture, and Royal Randwick Racecourse will provide you with a unique experience. Royal Randwick is only 5-10 minute drive from the Sydney CBD, cabs are quite readily available and would cost you no more then $20. The races start at around midday, and finish late afternoon. Bookmakers are on course if you fancy a bet, and form guides can be purchased on course. The races are in full flight during the Autumn, when Sydney hosts the "Autumn Carnival", presenting high quality races, and large prize money. During these times even celebrities get out to the track, it is absolutely huge, everyone gets involved. It is a day full of colour and high end fashion. The filly's look beautiful and the men are suave, and certainly a great day out and a good way to experience Australian culture first hand.
